Reimagining the WAN Hoodie

If you scroll down the Linus Tech Tips channel for long enough, you’ll spot the original WAN Hoodie, launched all the way back in 2016. Back then, it was just a fun idea brought to life with the help of another company. While it was featured in many of our most popular videos, it was FAR from our idea of the perfect hoodie.

But by the time the new decade rolled around, LTT merchandise had become more than just a one-off hoodie. We had a full team at Creator Warehouse designing apparel for LTTStore.com!

And so our second take on the WAN Hoodie (internally known as the WAN Hoodie V2) was a major step up. This time, we got to really make something we were proud of. We said goodbye to the screen printed logo, got rid of the fingerless gloves, and made it feel far more premium and purposely functional.

That being said, we’re Creator Warehouse which means we’re obsessive over absolutely everything. Even when something feels complete, we know that there are always improvements to make.

From V2 to V3

The goal was simple: refine the hoodie at its weakest points, and find ways to make it even more unique. That meant some tough decisions like ditching the (admittedly, not that useful) shoulder pocket, removing the non-zipped coin pouch, getting rid of the thumbhole cuffs, and completely reworking the kanga pocket to be much less cumbersome. We even moved the arm pocket to the other side and made the back pocket bigger, which were two preferences for most people we tried it on.

We also had a few things that we could improve when it came to fit and feel. That meant loosening the sleeves, refining the overall cut, and changing the hood to a three-panel construction so it sat better on your head. The fabric got a big upgrade too: a heavier-weight cotton terry that feels more premium, warmer, and just better overall.

Even the small details got a re-think: the drawcord tips and eyelets are now hexagonal to tie into the WAN Show aesthetic, giving a subtle but fun nod to the brand. Also, hexagons are just the bestagons.

Why red?

Another reason we wanted to create a new WAN Hoodie was the color. Matthew came in with the initial pitch for the V3 hoodie in the red/grey colorway to match the WAN Show logo, and that’s when the debate really ignited.

The orange on the V2 hoodie had carried over from the first WAN Hoodie, even though the WAN Show’s actual branding never included it. Over time, that color made its way into other products like the WAN Desk Pad and WAN Backpack, carrying the same DNA. But deep down, it never felt quite right to us since it felt more like “LTT” colors than WAN colors.

We were going back and forth for weeks. So naturally, we handed it off to the people who actually matter here, our WAN Show community. We ran a poll live on the WAN show: keep the orange or switch to red? Red ended up winning, and that decision helped define the look of the V3 WAN Hoodie.

And that’s how we arrived at the version you see live in the store now. It shares the same DNA as our previous hoodies, just a whole lot better with all the knowledge and experience we’ve gained since then. Plus, with red finally winning over orange, the color now truly matches the WAN Show branding.
