Description
When life gives you the shaft (or 3 tonnes of shafts)…make a pen! Built from repurposed screwdriver shafts, the Scribedriver is the intersection of sustainability and a premium writing experience.
With an laser-engraved logo and discreet detailing, no attention to detail was spared in creating this precision performance pen.
Smooth bolt action provides a satisfying feel and easy activation
Our spring-loaded bolt action allows this elegant pen to double as the perfect fidget toy that you can sneak into even the stuffiest meetings.
Built with repurposed LTT screwdriver shafts from our original launch run, you can expect the same premium quality as our tools
In the spirit of sustainability, we machined down screwdriver shafts we couldn’t use and turned them into a writing tool with a high quality feel and finish.
Comfortable and grippy knurling
Our knurled finish at the pen’s grip point provides a perpetually comfortable writing experience while outlasting any standard gel or foam-based pen grip. This is a softer knurling than the LTT screwdriver to allow for extended use and comfort.
Compatible with Parker G2 refills
Prefer a certain writing feel? Pair your scribedriver with your favorite Parker G2 refill! Otherwise, it comes shipped with a Schmidt EasyFlow 9000 medium (black) cartridge.

Scribedriver Mechanical Pencil

I switched to using primarily fountain pens ~8 years ago because I wanted to have more fun with my stationary, but I kept carrying ballpoint pens as a backup and loaner pen. I honestly got the scribedriver out of a passing curiosity (and for a shipping minimum order quantity), but I've enjoyed it enough for it to become my daily carry.
Build Quality
The pen feels wonderful in the hand. It's the heaviest pen out of my daily set, but that's to be expected considering the metal construction. The bolt action is satisfying and wonderful to fidget with while the clip is tight without being annoying to attach to a pocket. It is a bit thinner than your average ballpoint, which caught me off guard at first, but it still felt nice in the hand to write with and I quickly got used to it. My hands are on the larger side, so I don't think it should be an issue for most. Personally, the knurling adds very little to the overall experience, but it's visually very pleasing to look at and is a fun reminder of the story behind how these pens came to be.
Writing
My pen came with a Schmidt easyFlow 9000M in black ink. It was fine, but I wanted a finer point (the 9000M is 1.0 mm) and was having some issues with consistency where it would occasionally drag without marking or leave large splotches. I'm left handed, the ink would also smudge when writing quickly. Thankfully, the pen is compatible with Parker G2 refills, so a quick trip to an office supply store later and I had a Parker QUINKFlow fine tip (0.7 mm) cartridge. Having to buy a part after the initial purchase isn't ideal, but that's the downside innate to customizable and reusable products as a whole. I would personally call that a feature. Also, as mentioned before, I'm used to fountain pens, this is way cheaper and easier haha.
Overall
This is a great pen if it fits your needs. It's not for everyone, if you write very light the extra weight may be annoying and if you don't want to bother with swapping the ink, you may not like the one that it comes with. I personally have a Zebra Sarasa that I'll sometimes use over the scribedriver for the ink, and neither pen overtakes my workhorse Lamy Safari. $30 is steep for a pen if you don't care for stationary, if you do, it's fairly priced. If you're on the fence, I'd say go for it.
I like the pen, it's a bit small for my hands, but it handles nice, and it makes for a decent fidgeting thing.
Unfortunately the ink cartridge/ballpoint is horrible. it often stops rolling when going certain directions, and other times smudges a ton of ink at certain angles, you can see it at the top of the loops in the picture
It's a pen that rights well and is satisfying to hold. The bolt action toggle is very satisfying.
I thought this was advertised as being similar to the screwdriver shaft and with that similar knurling. The scribe driver knurling is barely noticeable and the more I'm handling it in my hands the more upset I'm getting. So much potential left on the table when I go back to handling the screwdriver. For anybody reading this wanting the same experience as the screwdriver it's a HARD PASS.
The idea is neat, but its got surprising weight to it and the ball point lacks quality. The weight is nit picky but I seriously can't write two sentences without it clogging or writing inkless. A standard BIC pen fills in the blanks no issue. I usually have that issue on a hard surface and single sheet, but its on a legal pad so I'm frustrasted with it. Feel like I spent $30 on a decorative pen, not a functional one.
